Meet Our Community: Kelly Mazanti

Meet Kelly, one of our awesome community members at The Conscious Merchant. We sat down with Kelly to learn more about her, and her journey to a safer and more sustainable life.

TCM: Hi Kelly! Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Kelly: I live in Breckenridge, Colorado where I operate my brand design studio, Pier Collective. I fell in love with mountain biking this summer and love skiing in the winter. Backcountry is new to me, but I’m ready to send it (safely and with proper education, of course). Oh, and I’m launching my first podcast, “Send It” this month! [Check out her podcast now!]

TCM: That sounds like a lot of fun! It’s so great living in such a beautiful state like Colorado where these things are right in our backyards. What inspired you to start a safer and more sustainable journey?

Kelly: During COVID quarantine, I started to become more aware of the products I use on a daily basis. I’ve always considered myself “healthy” from the standpoint of my eating habits and exercise, but I was using a lot of toxic products for my body (hair, skin and nails) and started to become more aware of chemical scents in dish soap and laundry detergent. What better time to purge and explore new ways of living than this huge transitional time in our world. After spending two days with Jacki Carr for her Goals Alive workshop in October, I realized that I can align myself with brands and companies I care about, who also care about me as a way to embody “brands brought to life” in my life as someone who cares about and does brand design professionally.

TCM: Yes, just as you said -- this has been a huge transitional time for us all. How have we helped you throughout your journey?

Kelly: I feel so safe with the products that TCM offers and I know I’m going to get my money’s worth with the quality and application. The whole “natural products” claim, I now know, is dangerous and I appreciate how TCM educates and spends time vetting and researching products to thoughtfully curate what is available for us as consumers. That’s a full time job that I don’t have time to do, so it makes better-for-me products available and accessible.

TCM: We love to hear that! What has been the easiest switch you’ve made?

Kelly: Deodorant! I’m so in love with the sample you gave me and it actually WORKS all day. Mind. Blown. And the ‘Coriander and Olive’ dish soap totally cuts through the grease and tough stuff. Next up - all soaps, detergents and cleaning products!

TCM: Yay!! We love our Routine deodorant, and we are so glad that you have found products that work well for you. For those wanting to be a changemaker, what advice do you have?

Kelly: Start with one thing (one product, one part of your home you want to clean up and make safer) and then take the next step. You’re not a failure if you didn’t do it all in one fell swoop. It’s about taking the first step and creating positive action through the movement of doing something, rather than remaining idle, before trying to be perfect.
